The mission of the West Dakota Water Development District is to encourage better utilization of our water resources through water conservation, proper water management and the evaluation and protection of our water quality in an effort to put water to beneficial use for domestic, municipal, industrial, irrigation and recreational purposes.

The West Dakota Water Development District has been active in water conservation and enhancement projects in western Pennington County since 1985. It has partnered with the United States Geological Survey, South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Pennington Count, City of Rapid City, and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology on numerous projects over the years like the Trinity Eco Prayer Park, Canyon Lake Park Rehabilitation, West Berry Trails Rehabilitation and the Hydrology Study of the Black Hills.
